Oftentimes the sites and services that go down are suffering from other internet-related issues not directly connected to their business or company. With stuff like this, it's really impossible to predict how long the downtime will last without the company offering some information on exactly what is going on.
As you might expect, users have flocked to Twitter to complain about the downtime, with WhatsApp already trending high on the news lists and the other apps and services not far behind. This particular outage appears to be a bit different, as all of the services have remained down for close to a half-hour at the time of this writing and none of the sites or apps are showing signs that they are trying to come back online. The same is true of WhatsApp, which fails to load online. At present, Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger are not responding, leading to IP address errors on the web and elsewhere.
